Starting July 1st New Yorkers will have to pay an additional $1.60 in taxes per pack of cigarettes. This tax will bring the average cost of a pack of cigarettes to almost $11. According to a recent npr.org article, the state has imposed this tax to help close the gap on their budget deficit. New York already has the highest cost of cigarettes in the country.
