Blu E Cigs have been one of the brands on the forefront of the vapor industry for several years now. In order to keep their place they have had to bring not only great vapor products, but also some changes and options for us all as well. It has been a while since we officially reviewed their e cigs and starter packs, and decided that it was time or an update.
Vapor And Flavor
Blu still does a great job of building an electronic smoking device capable of delivering a good amount of vapor with each puff. While you will have to take a few small puffs to “warm up” a Blu e cig that you haven’t used in a while, once you have done this you can pull in a significant enough amount of vapor to mimic a tobacco cigarette. This is not only something that we took note of, but also other vapors that we spoke with about this particular brand. Many tobacco smokers who first try vapor complain that they cannot obtain the same “feel” of smoking due to the amount of vapor that they can draw in at once. If you are looking for maximum amounts of vapor per drag the Premium 100s are your best bet, but the Regualr and premium sizes are also sufficient. For tobacco smokers looking to quit, or make the switch to vapor, this feature makes Blu one of the brands that should be highly considered when deciding which starter pack to purchase.
One of the things that makes the vapor provided by Blu (all of which is produced right here in the U.S. by Johnson Creek) a little different than other forms of e cig juice is that it contains no propylene glycol. This is a chemical that is used as a preservative and an agent that helps to make the vapor from your electronic cigarette look more like smoke. While the Food and Drug administration considers this chemical as “generally recognized as being safe”, and it used in many foods and drugs that are allowed to be sold, Blu prides themselves on not including it in their mixture. While we do not have enough evidence to say that this actually makes Blu’s product any safer or superior to other brands, one less chemical is always a good thing.
Blu makes their vapor available in seven flavors: Mild Vanilla, Cherry Crush, Magnificent Menthol, Classic Tobacco, Java Jolt, Pina Colada and Peach Schnapps. While this isn’t the widest selection of flavors available on the electronic cigarette market (some brands offer over a dozen) they do have all of the most popular flavors with the exception of chocolate. All of the flavors have a significant amount of taste without being overbearing, and the Classic Tobacco offering is still one of our favorite tobacco flavors out there, yet another reason that Blu is a good choice for those of you reading electronic cigarette reviews before you make the switch to vapor. The flavor of the vapor itself is one of the biggest factors that will determine if a brand is right for you. Overall we like the flavors the Blu provides, and look forward to them introducing more.
Blu’s Equipment
The biggest thing that Blu changed about their equipment since our last review is that they went from separate cartridges and atomizers to “cartomizers”. This has been a popular trend with many types of e cigs, as combining the atomizer (the part of the e cig that helps to turn the juice into vapor) and the cartridge (the part of the e cig that holds the juice) has proven to produce smoking devices that are easier to draw from. Aside from that Blu now offers their Regular and Premium sizes which equal about a pack of tobacco cigarettes, or their Premium 100 size which equals about a pack and a half of traditional smokes. The difference in the two selections is size, as the Regular and Premium option is about the same size as a regular tobacco cigarette while the Premium 100 is a bit larger, yet still small enough to make carrying it in its accompanying pack hassle-free. After having used both, it safe to say that Blu is pretty dead on with their estimates of how long their liquid refills last. As long as you do not insist on taking huge puffs every time that you take a drag, you will get about a pack from the Regular and Premium size and a pack and a half from the Premium 100 size. From a value standpoint this is worth noting as we have used some brands that do not seem to offer as much vapor as they claim.
As for the packs themselves, the Premium and Premium 100 packs offer some features that you won’t find from most other e cigarettes. While even the regular packs will charge your batteries while on the go so that you won’t run out of power during the day, the Premium packs do not require you to screw the battery into the pack to charge. This makes things easier on you while driving or doing anything else that does not allow you to pay full attention to charging, simply slip the battery back into the pack and you are good to go. The one thing that really distinguishes Blu’s packs from other manufacturers is their patented social feature that is programmed into the premium and Premium 100 packs. The social feature allows you to be alerted when you are within 50 feet of another Blu e cig smoker or a vendor that sells Blu products. The packs also come equipped with a USB charging point on the side and lights that let you keep track of the battery level so that you know when it’s time to charge.
